New York Blog 2: Oversize Apple

How we build

Legal frameworks to take ownership

Of new land from people already there

How we search

The desire for something new

Accumulating ever more never ending

And flags with bands

and growing constellations

How we find

Everything, now, but silence

A checkerboard of one-way

Some two-way streets

On an island with a rectangle of green

A trapped, manicured, ground-level heart

Surrounded by regular sirens, high and low

Inescapably and mournfully melding

With air conditioners, steps and honks

How we worship

Celebrities on pinnacles with power

As we strain looking upwards

And skateboards skip the lights

Chrome-plated façades shine

Where slowing down

Is not an option
